The idea is cute, but the product is cheaply made and does not ship well

I purchased this as a gift for a friend. When this arrived some of the brown paint from the corgi’s body had worn off on the plastic holding it in place from shifting during the shipping. In addition the blue print on the inside of the box, rubbed off on the white platform that the corgi is GLUED to. Did I say glue? Yes. You can literally see big globs of glue attaching the dog to the platform as well as holding the solar chip into place. It looks like a elementary school art project in that regard. Finally, the dog’s head was displaced during the shipping. I am not sure how the manufacturer expects this to ship properly. Also there are NO instructions on how the head should be set so that it rocks without interference. Luckily I was able to figure it out, but when I give this as a gift I am going to have to show the recipient how to set the head of the corgi in place. There is a small notch that the head peg must sit in. It is very delicate and if it is not set correctly it will not move. It will just stay in place and cause the head to audibly click but not move. The only reason I would recommend buying this is if you are gifting the Queen to someone and want to also provide her companion. The craftsmanship of this corgi for the price is deplorable. I have seen this item in stores and really it is not that difficult to glue a dog to a platform without showing a lot of glue. That is just unacceptable. Not to mention the packaging did not preclude the head from becoming unset nor protecting the paint.

    Great for corgi lovers!

I bought this because it’s adorable, and I love corgis! I couldn’t be happier with it for that reason. He sits on my desk at work and I love watching him bob his head. When in direct sunlight he works amazingly! If not in DIRECT sunlight, he doesn’t move much if at all. I can live with that, he’s cute anyway. Everyone in my office loves him, and I think he would make a great gift for a corgi lover in your life! That being said, I’ll be honest, the quality isn’t amazing which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. You can see that he is literally glued to his stand (yes, if you look closely you see the edge of the glue poking out. There are a couple places where the paint isn’t perfect (on mine there is a little pink from the ear outside of the rest of the pink, a little brown paint spot on his foot). Just zoom in on the pic of it on this page and you can see imperfections. However, this stuff is not noticeable unless you’re right up close so it’s not a big deal to me.

    Terrible paint job!

They did a Terrible paint job on Queen Elizabeth’s face! Very disappointed with this item!

  4. David Trumbull

Fun, happy with it, but it’s not perfect

My wife just loves watching the queen as she waves at our living room window. That said, there is one design flaw, the base is small and the head is large and heavy. It fell over and the head broke off. She loved it so much that I bought a replacement. But it’s not like we were careless, it could have been designed better.

I luv the Queen. It has to be classy just like her.

It was just as the picture showed. Regal and classy just like her. I have her in my sunny kitchen window and she makes my day just to look at her waving at me.

    The Queen is in Residence!

I’ve been obsessed with the Royals since the early 80s and I just had to have this item. I don’t know what makes me smile more — the Queen waving at me on my windowsill each morning or the thought of the actual Queen being shown such a product (lol). Either way, I LOVE this item and it makes me … happy. She was a lot larger than I expected (I thought she would be a tiny figurine). She waves even in overcast skies and I was able to keep her protected in the box (no need to remove). She still works perfectly.I wish I could’ve ordered pink and not blue (colors are chosen for you) but not a huge deal.I will most likely order the corgi, and if the manufacturer should opt to create similar figurines of other members of the Royal Family, I’ll most likely order them, too.

Can’t get her to wave but she’s adorable anyway.

Bought this for a gift. Maybe they can figure out the wave. She’s wearing a genuine artificial diamond pin, lovely hat. And she looks very much like the gracious Queen Elizabeth. My daughter in law gives the queens wave as she is leaving. She has a great sense of humor and I’m sure she will enjoy this.

Silly. Or charming. Why, it’s a “collectible.”

This is ridiculous. But then, it’s supposed to be.Actually, I don’t think it’s supposed to be. I think people are getting these as collector’s items — there’s a matching Queen. And her little corgis. Is there a Prince Charles, with waving ears? All on someone’s shelf somewhere, in original packaging. But I don’t understand “collector’s items,” so I can’t evaluate. What we have here is a nicely made plastic corgi, which bobs its head forever. Powered by a little solar cell, so no batteries required. Bob, bob, bob. Forever. Works under reasonable strong overhead lighting (e.g. in a kitchen). We got this as a gift because we have corgis (real ones, which bob their heads and everything else, but you more or less have to feed them, and they poop; which the plastic one does not).

    Fun solar-powered Corgi

I got this as a gift for my brother as a companion for his solar-powered Queen figure that waves when she’s in the sunlight. Every Queen needs her dog! He really likes it and said the little dog makes him smile every time he sees him.

  12. Karen, San Diego

    Love My Queen!

Love my new queen! This is my second one. Both work well! Two different outfits! They wave to me all day long while standing on my kitchen window ledge.

    Nicely sculpted.

This is a well sculpted piece with nice accents, however a little pricey.

I have purchased three (Albert Einstein Solar Figures)

I bought the first for myself, and two more as gifts over the past year. The statue of Albert Einstein is easily recognizable and when the sun is out, his hand keeps pointing to head reminding us to “Think!”It has worked well on a window sill that gets indirect sunlight for most of the day.

    Bum statue

    1. when placed on my windowsill, the solar panel is on the inside base; the solar panel should be on the statue’s back base or shoulder (as it is on my Queen Elizabeth statue which waves like a champ into the room). 2. and more importantly, there is a disconnect between the waving hand and the solar panel such that there is no waving at all despite frequent jiggling of the hand to help get it started.. Even in full sun on the windowsill (statue and solar panel facing out, the Pope’s back to me inside), there’s no action. If I’d kept the packaging and sales receipt, I’d send it back. The Amazon record of the transaction should suffice. Pope Francis is by no means an ineffectual Pontiff as we’ve seen so far, so his statueshouldn’t be ineffectual either!

    Lots of Fun

Her Majesty was just the right gift to send a friend who needed a laugh, and I admit I enjoyed her for a few days myself before sending her on! I gave her 4 stars because her back fell off and I could see the reason was because she was assembled with a very small amount of regular-looking glue. I applied more glue and put her back together. Be aware that it takes fairly direct sunlight for her to wave – lamp light did not trigger the mechanism (although, when I shone a flashlight at close range directly into the purse, her hand did move slightly). I intend to purchase another of HRH for my own amusement!

It works perfectly. Just being in a sunny room gets him going.

Picture of two figurines; they only send one

thought 2 for the price was ok, but despite the picture showing two figurines, they only send one. Color at random. Which is total crap and very misleading. Will not buy from them again.

  20. CR

Cute piece to go with waving Queen

I love this piece, but since corgis are known for their rear end, I wish the tail wagged instead of the head.

My favorite souvenir from the UK that I bought on Amazon

While visiting London I saw this waving Queen in a shop window. The shop was closed and I set out on a mission to find and purchase this very cool statue. Sadly I could not find it anywhere. So when I got home I checked with Amazon, and sure enough, there she was! It’s a great conversation piece. We have her on the kitchen windowsill and say good morning to her as she waves to us. It reminds us of the great time we had in London. As long as light is coming through the window, our Queen is waving!!

    Queen goes Green

God Save our Gracious Queen….from over exertion. This Queen gets high marks for her clever “green” solar assist. All my anglophile family and friends received one of these for Christmas and she was well-received by all. What could be more comforting than that stiff upper lip and “keep calm and carry on” smile and wave, never faltering as long as the sun is shining! The only thing missing is the Queen’s matching hat. Guess she is trying to catch a few rays herself to bring out that English rose complexion! Highly recommend this amusing knick knack.

    I love the Queen

She is lovely and has amazing arm strength ! Waves from sun up to sun down- If you love the Queen, as I do, you cannot be without this wonderful statue of her – it’s very well made. Came packaged in a plastic box that was form fitting so she did not move in her travels – was it perfect condition – I will treasure her – you will too. The color is random and I got her with a blue dress – I would have loved the pink too- but the blue does compliment her beautiful silver hair. enjoy

    Queen still has it.

My friend was over the moon for her waving Queen.

  25. Gary S

Good for a daily smile… the queen.

Gotta love the queen. There she stands smiling, so proper, with her bulky purse, outdated hairstyle, and pink dress. Waving her hand as though changing a light bulb. They didn’t try to slim her down, either. She sits in the living room here near a doorwall, waving to those “in her presence”. Some said she falls over. Well just don’t put her on carpeting. She sits fine on a table since she is on a round base. To us commoners in the modern world she’s a real character. So glad she graces us with her presence… LOL.

I love my little solar queen!

Puts a smile on my face every time I see her waving at me. For a mass-produced resin(?) little statue she’s actually very solid feeling and the detail painting is not sloppy at all.I worried her little waving hand might break in shipping, but no, it worked right out of the box. Works under a reading lamp or in a window obviously. Dim light isn’t enough to get her solar panel charged.

  27. akravitz

Dont leave this dog in a hot car!

I bought this adorable corgi bobblehead cause it was just too adorable! I put it on my dashboard in my car and it’s kept me company and amused up until last Friday when the temperature hit 80+. On Friday, something in the head melted! Mr corgi’s head no longer moves and he has a nasty melted substance dripping down his side.I guess I would say you should buy this as long as you don’t put it in your car cause it will melt.

… have ordered this item before and the gift recipient loved it. The product itself is great

I have ordered this item before and the gift recipient loved it. The product itself is great, but I believe the wrong color was shipped to me this time. The Queen has a turquoise dress- which is quite fetching- but the product I ordered looked like she had on a pink dress.

  29. BigDogsMom

    Very pleased with The Pope

Got this for my elderly Aunt because she just loves the Pope. She said that every morning when she gets up, seeing the Pope waving at her makes her smile. So I think it was a good buy. I was worried that she was going to be offended and think I was making fun of the Pope, but she wasn’t. I’m happy that my Aunt starts every day with a smile.

  30. cran

    look of item

This is the second Queen we ordered. This one works a little bit better but still is more of a “bouncing hand” than a solar controlled wave. Some of the detail is off. The painting is off the hair and the shoes. Having the “Queen of England” wave at me kind of boost my ego. I just wish the solar wave worked.

  31. phil jaillite

    amusing

were sent as gifts…..i bought two last year, only one worked

  32. Charlene S. Diotalevi

Good product but picture bit deceiving

The waving queen came this week and it is just as it appears. Solid and sturdy. However, it really does appear by the photo that 2 waving queens is what the customer will receive. Going back to read the quantity is 1, but buried in the description. I love the product but really thought I was getting a blue and pink. Marketing is deceptive.

  33. ichiro kitamura

    It was in good condition.

I was worried about damage to the case, but it was good that there was no damage. Thank you very much. Good shop.

    Very cute

Had seen these in stores do $10 more. It’s cute and was what one would expect of a solar toy. The wave is pretty accurate!

  36. A

The best royal kitsch, but requires direct light

While overall I’m happy with this product, I’m ranking it only 3 stars for 2 reasons. (Please note, is rank her 3.5 stars if that was possible.) 1) the paint job is sloppy. The paint on Her Majesty’s shoes and handbag strap run onto her feet and sleeve, and is a bit squiggly along the edges. And her eyelashes are downright spooky. They consist of about 4 long, disproportionate lines floating above her eyes and extending up her forehead. It’s like the makeup artist for A Clockwork Orange had a go at her face. Considering the steep price, I’d expect better quality.2) Compared to other solar powered figurines I’ve had or seen, it takes much more direct light to work.I have given all sorts of little dancing figurines from the dollar tree to people as gifts. (They are great for cheering up people in the hospital or nursing homes!) You can’t get much more low-quality than the dollar tree, yet those cheep little figurines danced away much more vigoursly with much lower light. They will work in a brightly lit room even without directly having the light source shining on them. Or on a windowsill on an overcast day.My office is very well lit with natural light from the floor to ceiling windows and overhead fluorescent lights, however, the sunlight does not hit our desks directly. Many coworkers have solar figurines, and they work fine. Queen Elizabeth, on the other hand does not. She only works with direct sunlight, or if placed directly in the beam of my desk lamp. That said, I can live with these flaws because overall I love her! She is adorable and kitschy enough that people understand I’m displaying her with a bit of humor, not because I’m a creepy, obsessive Royal Family stalker. :)While I was expecting better quality for the price, I was delighted to find out that this is an actual replica of the ensemble she wore to Royal Ascott. That ups the collectible value, I’d imagine, and seems a bit impressive to me.Here are the details that I love:1) The dainty wrist-wave! It cracks me (and everyone who visits my desk) up.2) Her sparkly broach! This is the most quality detail on her. It’s made out of a rhinestone and wire. It’s really pretty and it really does shine and sparkle!3) The clever placement of the solar panel on her black handbag. It’s hardly noticeable!

The paint job on the Queen is horrible!

I had bought one of these silly figures years ago and loved it. I bought this one as a gift. However, I’ll be spending some time correcting the really bad paint job. It looks like it was painted in a hurry by someone who was new on the job. It took too long to arrive to bother to send it back for an exchange and besides, maybe all the people painting them are just as sloppy. Don’t bother to buy one, unless you don’t care about the quality of the finished product.

It was a gift that was unexpected and she loves it. A little on the pricey side though.

    FUN!

I bought this as a fun Christmas gift. A close friend who is TOTALLY GENIUS. He didn’t laugh as much as I did.But hey- all in good fun. We both love Einstein, and this being a bobble-head, so much the better.Time to lighten up!

  43. NJN

    Fun and worth it.

Absolute fun. After watching The Crown had to have Queen Elizabeth all the time. No apologies!

  44. Leria Draven

    A Queenly item!

This is a bit larger than I thought it would be, which is fine as she is now on a kitchen shelf, waving to all who enter the house. Her wave is a nice subtle queenly wave and I love how the solar panel is hidden in her purse, making everything rather nice and tidy and elegant, as the queen should have it. There’s no horrible solar panel sticking out of the bottom etc that draws you look there instead of at the figure itself. Perfect for any anglophile!

Perfect gag gift for British friend!

This queen figurine was the perfect gag gift for a British friend. She waves when the shine shines on her. Very cute!

  47. Old Hooker

    Funny

She has to be in just the right sunlight to wave. But brightens my day.

  48. Veli Kolhinen

    Needs lots of sunlight

Cute pope statue that is not too dull. It needs a lot of sunlight to start to wave. May be larger solar cells would make it better.

  49. Michy

    Queen not so “wavy”

When I saw this on the Today show, I HAD to have one and buy one for my Scottish MIL. (Hers is purple with tiara!! MUCH prettier Version!!). I am a little disappointed that she does not wave very well on either version. Sunlight must be shining DIRECTLY on her handbag just for a little wave, unlike some of my other window perches that wave, bobble and dance like fiends…..perhaps she is just being reserved! Otherwise, it is made solidly, is cute to look at and is a great conversation piece.

Fun figurine – exactly as described.

This Einstein figurine is fun and you get what you pay for the price. I found this figurine in a store in Santa Barbara and wanted to get it as a surprise for a friend without having to drive all the way back to Santa Barbara or try to meander aimlessly around local stores. It’s a quality figurine that stands about 1 foot tall. It came as exactly described. The outer box was a little broken as I received it – but the inner figure wasn’t damaged.

  52. Devotionx

    Really fun figure

Great gift, it works, and is cute.

  53. Pam

    All hail the Queen

I love it, everyone enjoys seeing her. My only issue is the solar panel quite working right away. So no hand movement, is really why I bought her. But, I still display her proudly.

  54. Sheri R Lindsey

    Didn’t work

I saw this in a store in Spain and loved it. I put it in my office and it didn’t work. I thought maybe it wasn’t getting enough light so I brought it home and put it in the sun and still nothing. Unfortunately by the time I realized this I missed my window to return or I would try to exchange for another. Very sad about this.

  55. James S.

    What I expected for price

It arrived sooner than expected but overall it is what I expect for what I did pay for. This is what mine looked like when it arrived of course out of packing will look fun on my dashboard.

    So cute! Great size

Was a gift for a Canadian coworker and it was a huge hit at the office. The hand only waves a little but our windows have a tint, so I think that’s part of the problem. I still love it though!

  57. PreK Rocks!

    Beyond cute!

So stinking cute! 🙂 This was purchased as a gift for someone who collects memorabilia and statues of the current pope. While Francis needs a little nudge to start waving, he is still as cute as can be. It is finished nicely, and looks great from all angles.I would monitor the price as it seems to fluctuate a bit, but it does make a great present.Just as an aside, it is very unassuming as well. I can’t imagine it would offend anyone you gift it to.

  58. Concerned Citizen

    Bow-wow-wow! LOVE this little Corgi!

Any Royal watcher worth their salt knows the Queen is never far from her beloved Corgis, and little Elroy gives Solar Queen (sold separately) a faithful companion. Elroy is well-made, and the nod of his head is smooth and well-powered from the solar panel in his base. The only negative I would mention (for those hung up on demanding “reality” in their toys), the dog is not scaled to size when paired with Solar Queen–he is disproportionately “larger than life”. However, for those who can let it go, don’t miss out on this fun figurine. I intend to give Elroy as a gift, but I’m having a hard time parting with him–yes, he’s THAT cute!

  59. J. Adams

    I give up

I got one of these little solar corgis in a silent auction last fall and it worked great. Then I accidentally broke it. No problem, I thought, I’ll just see if I can get a replacement. So I ordered one from Amazon (via a 3rd party seller) and it came with the head all skewed to one side, and of course, didn’t bobble. Amazon replaced it (from a different 3rd party seller) with next-day delivery. That one didn’t bobble. Amazon replace THAT one (from yet another 3rd party seller) with second-day delivery. The THIRD one actually worked like it should. That was in mid-March. It is now mid-May, and the glue has started running down the inside of the corgi’s head, cementing his head to his neck. I worked some of the glue off and got it to bobble a little, but there appears to be a LOT of glue remaining on one side of the inside of his head. He is no longer a bobblehead corgi, just a dashboard ornament. I agree with the reviewer who wrote that you should stick with buying one from a brick & mortar store where you could return it when it stops working (in less than 60 days), or just be happy with a cute corgi figurine.

    Waving hello or good bye?

Totally wonderful item which I gave as a gift to my Catholic, Pope Francis loving friend. The only problem is, the solar cell is in the front so he has to be turned away from you to watch him wave. I would think a person would like to see him giving benedictions TO them, not away from them. Hence the 4 star rating instead of 5 stars.
